SAP / ERP consultant

SAP / ERP consultant

The migration to S/4HANA makes SAP consulting one of the most urgent needs of German companies.

All sectors

The profession

You advise companies on SAP and ERP, configure the modules and support the S/4HANA migration and business processes (finance, controlling, HR).

Salary

The median is about 4,641 €/month (range 4,050 to 5,608 €). Entry level is around 48,900 €/year, 3 to 10 years between 62,000 and 63,000 €/year, a senior between 62,200 and 83,400 €/year, up to about 88,000 €/year in Bavaria (source: StepStone, 2026).

Employers hiring

SAP, Accenture, Capgemini, Deloitte, PwC, All for One Group, NTT Data Business Solutions and msg are hiring, as well as the internal teams of Siemens, Bosch, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, BASF, Bayer, Lufthansa and DHL.

Prospects

It is the sector's number one bottleneck, driven by the migration to S/4HANA and the end of ECC support (source: Bitkom, 2025).

Career progression

You can move up to senior consultant, solution architect, then project manager.

Language level

It is the sector's German-speaking exception: a B2, often a C1 in German, is generally required for this client-facing role tied to German business processes, and SAP roles in English only are rare.

Diploma recognition

In IT, formal recognition of your diploma is most often not required to work in Germany. A solid degree or solid experience makes the EU Blue Card easier; we assess your profile, your qualifications and your experience.

Visa

The 2025 EU Blue Card requires a gross salary of about 48,300 € per year (general threshold) or about 43,760 € per year for shortage occupations such as IT (source: immigration law firms, 2025). IT specialists without a university degree can obtain it with at least 3 years of comparable experience and an offer meeting the reduced threshold. The Chancenkarte (opportunity card) lets you come to look for a qualified job for up to one year. As this role requires good German, often C1, we check your eligibility and build the application with you.

Your Karriere Fähre support

We train you in German up to the useful level, present your profile to German employers, prepare the visa application and support you until you are settled.

Frequently asked questions

Can I become an SAP consultant without fluent German?
It is difficult: this client-facing role generally requires a B2, often a C1 in German, and SAP roles in English only are rare, which is why we train you in the language.
Why is SAP consulting hiring so much?
The end of ECC support pushes companies to migrate to S/4HANA, making it the sector's number one bottleneck (source: Bitkom, 2025).
